Life post semi-pro football - possible retirement

August 26th, 2008

2008 has been an exciting year full of lots of adventures. Here are some of the adventures intermixed with random commentary. Be prepared it’s super random.

While I was off the grid I started to think about the blog and what it was really inteded for and how I have used it, and my struggles to use it for what I really wanted it for, and my struggles for run on sentences that seem to go on and on and on forever. Ok, I think that joke has run its course.

Anyway, with that in mind I’ve decided to break off the tech stuff on this blog and funnel it through a more generalized blog called joshsagermedia.com.  It’s due to launch in just a few minutes.  What does that mean for stardotstar? Well I hope it means that this blog will be used as a creative outlet.

In reality I think it means this could be the end this blog.  However, I do reserve the right to pull a Bret Favre and unritre the blog at any time.

I’d like to tell you to keep posted, but in all likelyhood this could mean retirement, or at least a big time restructure.  I guess you could say that this domain and blog was my training wheels for what I want to do next.  What is that exactly? Well it involves more sharing of methods and technology and using the blog to share my creative projects. But on a more personal here’s who I am and what I do.

StarDotStar for me, kind of feels like the first cool screen name that I created with when I was a kid, but know you’ve been working for a while and it just seems out of touch with how I’ve developed and grown. The moral of the story is that I think StarDotStar has served its purpose for the time being.

so until further notice please accept this as my final sound off.  For those of you that can’t get enough of my infequent posting you can see the newly restructured me at http://www.joshsagermedia.com

ActionScript 3.0 Diagram

April 27th, 2008

Here is the famed ActionScript 3.0 Diagram poster that’s been floating around the net.  I just finished teaching on of the best Brush Up Courses I have ever had and I promised that I would post this on my blog so here it goes.

ActionScript 3.0 Diagram

This poster has saved my life more than a few times.  I had the poster printed in wide format and then mounted it to black poster board. It’s fairly large but still portable.

Day One of Practice

April 22nd, 2008

Tackle Drills

Well I made it through day one of practice.  I’ve never hit anybody in full pads before. Honestly, it was like a blur then the whistle blew and I got up and did it again. If I had to grade myself today on tackling I would give me an F.  I didn’t wrap my arms around the guy well enough.  But there is always next time.  Something to work on in deed.

The image above was right before I got my bell run on my 3rd time around.  It’s good to have that out of the way.   The other stuff I did pretty well. I’m used to the conditioning aspect, but the live drills will take me some time and experience.

The team was pretty focused and for a bunch of guys paying to play football I really wouldn’t have it another way.

I got my first assignment today and I’ll be playing Defensive Back.  I ran with the DBacks on some live drills.  It was pretty cool I must say.  I really hope to improve and make some real contributions.  As I sit and type this out with a beat up body and a slight headache I really got to give it to the pros for being able to wake up every day and do this on purpose.  It’s a rush, but there’s not doubt that your body pays for it.

I’m a Semi Pro Football Player

April 22nd, 2008

PA Warhawk LogoToday is my first practice for the PA Warhawks! That’s right I’m playing football and I’m stoked. We are a semi-pro team that is looking to win the championship this year. Our team is in it’s 3rd year and under the helm of Coach Sepp.  I’ve been very impressed at the team and staff he has assembled for the upcoming 2008 season.

Our training camp starts today at PTI field and our games will be played at Joe Walton Stadium located on the campus of Robert Morris University. So you guys better come out and cheer us on. Tickets are inexpensive ($10) for a fun day at the stadium with your family.

I don’t know what I’ll be playing yet, but I’m looking to contribute in any way I can.  Today I’m going out for Wide Receiver, a little ambitious but I’m going for it anyway.

I’ll be posting the game schedule when it is finalized.  Our first game is Saturday May 31, st at 400pm. I hope to see you there. In the mean time wish me luck.

Open Mic at Affogato

April 13th, 2008

Open Mic at Affogato Coffe House - Hosted by Josh Sager

Although the Jim Dandies have played their last show I’m going to continue to host open mic night at Affogato.  It was a great ride and truly the end of an era. Other music projects are around the corner like The Haunted Lunchbox.

In honor of our last show I wrote a song in a Jim Dandies style as a gift to my band mates and fans out there. It’s called “Last Show” and you can hear it at the mySpace page JoshSagerMusic.

Wee Beasties

March 30th, 2008

Wee Beastie Show at Zombo Gallery - Artist Nathan Mazur

I am a big fan of Pittsburgh’s own Nathan Mazur.  His illustrations are amazing and his latest works featured at the Zombo Gallery in Lawerenceville are adorably disturbing. Never before have I had a soft spot for ear wigs and eyelash mites, but the Wee Beasties have challenged my tastes for parasites and little gross things with more eyes and legs than me.

Nathan’s work will be featured until April 5th at the Zombo Gallery and the Jim Dandies are playing the closing reception.

Amani Coffeehouse Show: Featuring Josh Sager

March 21st, 2008

Josh Sager Acoustic Show at Amani International Coffeehouse

Wednesday the 26th I’ll be playing this great little coffee shop called Amani on the north side.  I’ll be doing roughly a 2 hour set. So come on out have some coffee and enjoy the rockn’.

Special Acoustic Show: St. Patty’s Day

March 11th, 2008

St. Patty’s Day Acoustic Show: The Jim Dandies

It’s like the softer side of sears.

Invisible Children Event

March 9th, 2008

Invisible Children Flier

The Jim Dandies are playing a benefit shot this evening at the Creative Treehouse to benefit the Invisible Children organization. There’s going to be food and for purchase artwork.  Ohh and of course some hard rockn!

I hope to see you there tonight. And for you Jim Dandies fans, I’ve got a special move all lined up for this evening so look for it!
