ICONN 5 - Illustrators Conference

February 25th, 2008

Every day as I explore the creative space on the web I find more an more fascinating things going on, and this is not exception. ICONN 5 is a conferece all about Illustration. Master Illustrators holds session secrets their techniques, secrets, and experiences. The sessions range from game design and story telling to branding and self promotion. There are even bigger picture sessions that address issues such as social responsibility; which fit great with the theme of the show.

It’s a bit pricey but for New York it’s not bad. In my opinion it’s a must go for an aspiring or professional Illustrator.

Today’s Students

February 22nd, 2008

Every now and again I am taken back by the amazing things people are doing and posting online. This is one of those things.

This video stopped me dead in my tracks and as an educator I couldn’t really agree more with how accurate this is from a students perspective. The traditions of education in my opinion, get in the way of the purpose. And that purpose is to educate. Seeing this makes me very happy that I spend extra hours developing screencasts, power points, and simulations. Rock on youtube and thank you Kansas State University for creating this.

Type Design is Not Dead!

February 21st, 2008

26 Letters

I came across a great type design website called jeremypettis.com through a great typography blog called Typeographica.org. I found the work to be stunning and I just had to re-post it

I’ve often wondered if anyone designed fonts or type anymore, and it’s good to see that it still exists.

Scale 9 with CSS

February 18th, 2008

The Task :
The other day I was hit with a challenge of creating a Scale 9 box with only CSS and no tables.

My first few attempts were not successful and as I searched for an answer online I came up short. After some more struggles I arrived at a solution through the help of one of my colleagues. I was approaching it all wrong.

The Problem:
I could get the top and bottom (horizontally) to tile like a champ, but the let and right (vertically) just wasn’t happening. Then an epiphany.

Scale9 CSS

A colleague of mine suggested putting the right box inside of the left box to force the size of BOTH boxes to fit the content.

The Solution:
And there it was. Scale 9 CSS Example File.

JoshSagerMusic Launched

February 16th, 2008

Josh Sager Playing the Keytar Photo By Betsy
Today I launched the JoshSagerMusic page on MySpace.  It’s nothing short of amazing.  I carefully chose a color scheme and deisgn that fits my brand of music perfectly.  Honestly I’d be shocked if it’s not nominated for a webby.

I wanted to the design to say MySpace but Facebook but no really MySpace so I chose the colors blue and white with a hint of peach and orange.

You can find it at myspace.com/JoshSagerMusic  If you’re not completely rocked out then we can set up an appointment with my lawyer.
